Updated: Mar 13

If you’re an experienced job seeker exploring your next chapter – in a full-time role or in a

seasonal opportunity and looking for meaningful work that serves the community – the County

of San Mateo deserves a closer look.

Over 100 Positions Open Currently

County’s motto is Work with Purpose, and the employees take pride in the work they do for the

residents and businesses on the Peninsula.

A Variety of Job Opportunities

The County offers far more than just traditional full-time roles. Job seekers can explore

opportunities that fit their lifestyle and career goals, including:

·      Full-time positions across clerical, administrative, human resources, finance, public

health, public safety, social services, communications, and technical functions

·      Extra help and seasonal roles, including election workers for the upcoming election,

park aides for the summer season, and office support and library staff

·      Internships and fellowships, ideal for individuals interested in learning new skills,

transitioning into public service, or exploring a new career path

Limited Term Positions: A Smart Way to Get Started

In addition to permanent, extra help, and seasonal roles, the County also offers Limited Term

positions.

These roles are full-time, temporary positions, funded for up to three years, or 6,240 hours of

work. The positions are project-driven and offer meaningful professional experiences. Limited

term employees receive the full range of benefits regular employees receive but are enrolled in

a portable 401A plan, instead of in the County’s pension plan.

Limited Term positions can be an excellent strategic move for many job seekers. The value of

Limited Term roles include:

·      An opportunity to gain valuable public-sector experience

·      A chance to try out a department or role before committing long-term

·      An opportunity to meet and network with the exceptional employees working for the

·      County
