Phase2Careers Honored Excellence in the Workplace on October 20
Phase2Careers, a non-profit organization since 2010, that serves the career transition needs of the "Over 40" worker in San Mateo County and beyond, held its third annual "Honoring Excellence in the Workplace," awards ceremony and breakfast at Poplar Restaurant in San Mateo on Friday, October 20. Close to a hundred attendees included Human Resources Recruiters, representatives of county and city governments, professionals from social service agencies throughout San Mateo County, and from a number of high profile local employers.
Featured Keynote Speaker was Tom McGraw, CEO of First National Bank of Northern California. His topic was "Navigating Life and Career Transitions." During his presentation, McGraw gave the audience advice on how to manage transitions and in so doing to thrive and achieve life balance and satisfaction. He skillfully wove in his own personal story, which included a number of dramatic changes in his own life. The message was powerfully delivered simply because it was real and heartfelt. And McGraw was, during his rich career, an actor, which meant that he was an excellent communicator. He held the audience through his emotional testimonies, meaty quotes, and through humor, accompanied by a lively PowerPoint presentation.
The ceremony also presented several awards, honoring organizations that acknowledge the contributions and provide a diverse, user-friendly workplace for the "Over 40" worker. The City of San Mateo and Peninsula Family Service Agency of San Mateo County received these awards.
Phase2Careers also awarded the Wells Fargo Foundation its "Community Partners" award, for their on-going support of Phase2Careers for its Job Search Review and Career Resource and Diversity Fairs.
Lisa Chai received the "Volunteer of the Year" award for her enormous talents, countless hours donated, and her enthusiastic support of Phase2Careers.
This event was informative, inspiring, and uplifting - celebrating the achievements of local organizations and individuals who make the work of Phase2Careers possible and rewarding.
